Ashington, once the heart of the North East Coal Mining Industry, was the largest coal mining village in the world. Birth place of footballing legends, Jackie Milburn and Bobby and Jackie Charlton.
The closure of coal mines in the late 70's has seen Ashington develop into a thriving town. A mining museum, including fully operational mineshaft is located on the outskirts of the town.
Ideally situated for exploring the North East Costal route. Close to hand are numerous castles, including Alnwick Castle, home of the Duke of Northumberland, famous for the Alnwick Gardens.
Within easy striking distance of Hadrian’s Wall and Kielder Forest, Ashington is ideally suited as a base for the more adventurous explorers.
Recently as the location for filming of Harry Potter.
