Children's toys, library of child and adult books, DVDs, CDs and family games provided. Wooden dresser. You can watch the local street-life from the half stable door looking out into Staithes.

Nostalgia and Maritime History. Who was Captain Cook?
Staithes is famous for its maritime history, evident throughout the village. In particular, try the celebrated Captain Cook & Staithes Heritage Centre to see a life-size street scene of life in Staithes in 1745. Discover Staithes smuggling history in this converted chapel in the village where Captain Cook lived and worked. Fascinating ooks, engravings, arterfacts and pictures of Staithes.

Activities for Children
Children love to try rockpooling and crabbing in the pools all round the sandy beach. You can also go fishing or take a sea trip on a local fishing boat. Staithes is on the “Dinosaur Coast” and fossils are easily found. Pocket money is easily spent at Brown's "sell everything" shop on the High Street. Toys, buckets and spades, fishing and crabbing nets, children's games.Follow the Old Jack's Boat Sticker trail round the village.

Eating and Drinking
In Staithes, there's no need to cook at home if you don't want to. Try one of the local pubs serving real ale and good quality, good value pub meals. Once one of the major fishing ports of England, Staithes has something of a Mediterranean feel to it, with its higgledy piggledy white-washed cottages and views of red pantile roofs. Find out about Staithes' smuggling history or have a look at at the ancient fishing “cobles” in the harbour. You'll find more local maritime history at nearby Whitby.
