Location & Surroundings

About the area: Barnham, a village famous for its windmill, sits roughly in the centre of a square formed by the towns of Chichester, Arundel, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis. These towns are all about 6 miles distant from Barnham. This is a popular large village with pubs, restaurants, take-away's and shops. It has a mainline railway station (direct line link to London and Gatwick Airport) with a taxi rank, as well as bus services -

all within 10 minutes level walk from the cottages. Also close-by the cottages are many walks - particularly along the old canal or across the marshes to the south of the village. Chichester and Arundel are historic towns with splendid cathedrals, and both are famous for their association with the arts. The roman-walled city of Chichester, has the Festival Theatre, art galleries and a wide variety of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. Arundel,

set on the river Arun, has a magnificent castle as well as a wetland centre, a host of antique shops, an arts festival and a wonderful selection of places to eat and drink. Littlehampton and Bognor Regis are both small classical seaside towns and both have blue-flag beaches. Littlehampton is one of the few towns where you can drive to a car-park on the sea front and step straight onto a huge safe clean sandy beach. Bognor Regis, which retains

Victorian architecture including a pier, has many seaside amusements and arcades. The nearby South Downs offer a vast area of natural beauty and wonderful walking, as well as being the home to Goodwood House, motor ciruit & racecourse as well as the Weald and Downland Museaum, the Chalk Pits museum and many other places of interest. The coastline also offers much of interest including the nearby nature reserve at Pagham Harbour, the Sand Dunes at

Climping, and the huge expanse of Chichester Harbour. Further afield, but close enough to visit easily, there is Portsmouth to the West with the HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. Brighton to the East is wonderful for shopping in the lanes, strolling on the pier or visiting the Dome. Or visit Petworth to the North, to see Petworth House and explore the many antique shops in this historic town.
