Location & Surroundings

NATURE
The solway coastal area is only 12 miles from us,with the sleepy resorts of Silloth and Allonby, surrounded by unspoilt coastline. The area is excellent for bird watching, or why not visit the ospreys at Dodd wood near Lake Bassenthwaite. An abundance of wildlife e.g.badgers, foxes, red squirrels, deer and wild ponies can be found nearby and the spectacular scenery makes all this a photographers paradise.

SHOPPING AND HISTORY
To the North of us is the City of Carlisle with all the shopping and nightlife that any major town provides. This is also a major part of Roman Britain and is close to Hadrian's Wall. Historic Carlisle Castle and the Cathedral, as well as the popular Tullie Musuem are well worth a visit, with guided tours available year round. Gretna Green and the Scottish border are only a few miles away.

CULTURE
The Lake District National Park starts two miles south of us- be adventurous go to the Western Lakes and see them as they were, rather than fight to park in Windermere or Pooley Bridge- no burgers or coach loads of tourists either. Rheged the village inside a hill is quite a unique experience as are some of Englands finest old country houses and castles. The theatre by the Lake in Keswick has a season of six excellent plays every Summer .

EATING OUT
We have a vast selection of eateries in the area to suit all budgets - one of the best "The Royal Oak, Welton " is next door to us!.. Why not visit some of Prince Charles favourite haunts such as The Old Crown at Hesket Newmarket, which also has its own micro brewery and is owned by the locals. We have an excellent indian restaurant " The Mango Tree " plus the consatntly first class " Blue Bell Inn " in Dalston around 3 miles from us.

SPORTING ACTIVITIES
Many good golf courses exist in the area, including Links courses. Trout fishing can be enjoyed nearby as can clay pidgeon shooting and horse riding. Walkers have a huge variety of routes at hand varying from easy to hard and cyclists will find the Rievers route and Coast to Coast not too far away. Cyclists and walkers are in an area of quiet country lanes that run for miles.
